Days of '47 Rodeo (July 20, 2012)

We attended the rodeo again this year for a "buckin" good time!  

Days of ’47 is BIG in Salt Lake City!  We had to be a part of it all, so we got tickets to go to the rodeo.  We were especially interested in Barrel Racing as this is the event Megan trained for during her horse camp.  We were not able to see her this year, but we thought of her as we watched the event at the Maverick Center.  

Deja's Girl Scout Camp (July 16-August 4, 2012)

Deja signed up for CIT 3 this year (counselor in training).  She was gone from July 16 to the 4^th of August.  I wasn’t in town when camp began, so grandma and grandpa dropped her off.  I didn’t hear a peep from her for three weeks!  I sent her a couple letters and then picked her up on the last day of camp.  She took me on a tour, showed me the different tents and cabins she has stayed in each week.  

She had a great view of the lake.  She stayed busy helping out with the different groups that came through during those three weeks.  Deja said she enjoyed the 5^th and 6^th graders more than the 3^rd and 4^th.  She even let someone tie dye her white shoes with her feet still in them!  (Her feet stayed blue for quite awhile!).  

She thinks she could work at the camp next summer if she wants to… Frog said she has a job any time she wants it!  I hope she remembers how much she enjoyed it!  

Cache Valley Century, Logan UT (August 25, 2012)

We headed up to Logan to ride in our second Cache Valley Century.  It is always nice to ride in Logan where empty roads and beautiful scenery are a perfect setting for cycling.

We started on the route a bit earlier that the ride was scheduled to begin.  We wanted to get a head start.  We did, and we FROZE!  It was about 39 degrees and our hands, feet, and ears were so cold it is a miracle they didn't fall off.  Annette joined us on the ride and Mike and the girls cheered us on from the car.  

It warmed up a couple hours later and we were able to shed a layer.  We rode 63 miles in all and it felt great!  The weather turned out to be ideal and the number of riders was perfect!  We were happy to be on the bikes again after Carolyn needed time to recoup from her knee injuries.

Annapolis, Maryland (August 21-23, 2012)

Another essential interview to include in Carolyn's book was with Lottie Riekehof.  Lottie wrong the Joy of Signing and was instrumental in the establishment of our profession.  She is also believed to be the very FIRST interpreter educator, training interpreters to interpret at Central Bible College in the 1940's.


She is an amazing woman that has contributed a great deal to our profession and to all of humanity in general.  She adopted and raised 29 deaf children from other countries and inspires people with he musical talents.  When asked how she keeps on going at the age of 92, she responded, "I keep going because I keep going."  She is truly a gift to the human race and is an inspiring individual.

We were also able to visit the United States Naval Academy while we were in Annapolis and eat on the docks.  We bought Jake a t-shirt in honor of his enlisting in the Navy.

We visited with Carol Patrie and met Paula, Carolyn's (and Carol's) editor.

 

UTRID Conference (August 16-18, 2012)

The UTRID Conference was held this year and Holly presented her "Let's F.A.C.E. It!" Workshop.  It was well attended and she had a lot of fun putting together the materials for the presentation.

There were many other great presentations as well.  Wendell "Wink" Smith was inspiring, and Josh Pennise enlightened us all with his Gay to Z workshop.  Mitch Jensen was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award and it was great to be there to cheer him on!  It was fun to be a part of the conference and UTRID did a fabulous job hosting this event for our community.  Kudos to them!

Tony Grove (August 13-15, 2012)

We met the Watsons and Lynn and Rosella up at Tony Grove in Logan Canyon.  This annual trip is always guaranteed to be a good time!

Lynn and Rosella had a loaner trailer this year due to their trailer having been smashed by a tree up in Island Park several weeks ago.  There was still plenty of room for us to stay in the trailer with them, and the Watsons brought up their trailer.  We stayed in our usual spots - right up against the mountain that provides ample space for the girls to spread out and establish their "kingdoms."  We are just a short walk from the water.  This year was especially fun because instead of kayaks, we had a paddle board!  This provided hours of entertainment (and a good core workout) for everyone daring enough to hop on!

There were several moose sightings on the trip, and although we had to bypass the longer hikes, we still were able to hike around the lake and take in the sights.

Holly cut off the tip of her knuckle as she whittled a wooden stick... that didn't stop her though!  She kept whittling away with the girls.

Camping is always fun.  A time to enjoy each other's company, eat lots of yummy food (including our daily fix of s'mores), play lots of cards (Mixing Bowl and Hearts mostly) and relax in the great outdoors!

Wicked (August 12, 2012)

We orchestrated a fun family outing with the Watsons and Lynn and Rosella to see the Broadway Across America showing of Wicked.  It was an amazing performance and an amazing night.

We ate together at P.F. Changs before the show.  For dessert, we ordered every one on the menu and had a taste of everything!

We had great seats on the floor and everyone really enjoyed the performance!

Baby Teuscher Shower (August 4, 2012)

Kristy is expecting her third baby this month!  Her friend, Kristen, planned a surprise shower for Kristy's friends and family.  It was a great shower!  Yummy food and lots of family and friends showed up to shower Kristy with loves and gifts!

Ontario, California (July 29-30, 2012)

One of the interviews Carolyn arranged to include in her book, was with Virginia Lee Hughes.  We met her on July 29th and had a great interview!

Neil Diamond (July 28, 2012)

We have been looking forward to Neil since we bought tickets last year!  He didn’t disappoint… he can still sing amazingly well and he puts on quite a show. 

We each got a t-shirt at the concert, and when Neil said all the proceeds would go to the families of the victims of the Aurora, Colorado shootings.  

Neil sang our songs in order!  First Holly Holy, and then Sweet Caroline, and we recorded both :)

There were lots of people to be entertained with as well.  We were siting behind the biggest Neil fan ever, he was very drunk, and very inspired!  We sat next to a man who took off his shoes to air out his stinky feet.  And we were even entertaining (or annoying) to some as we sat in the wrong seats 3 times!!  It was a great concert, and I wouldn’t hesitate to see him again.  Long live Neil Diamond!!!
